Senior Leadership Announcement
Para Hills Cricket Club - Senior Leadership Announcement
The Para Hills Cricket Club has commenced the appointments of our senior leadership for the 2024/25 season. Each season the Executive Committee is responsible for discussing and endorsing the club’s leadership group for the upcoming season. This process has commenced with the appointment of Mitchell Quinn as the A Grade Captain and Coach of the Senior playing group.
The Executive Committee would like to take this opportunity to acknowledge and thank Travis Wordsworth for his commitment to the role of captain over the last 14 seasons, where he did an outstanding job. Travis started his leadership journey as a raw 19-year-old to then nurtured into one of Adelaide Turf’s premier Captains. During Travis’ time as captain, the club gained promotion into A1 in 2013/14, won the A1 Premiership in 2020/21 and had several Grand Final appearances across A1 and T20 competitions. His commitment, effort and passion for the club deserves nothing but our praise and love for all that he has done and achieved.
Strategic Planning has played a pivotal role in the current committee’s operations and the decisions that have been made to date which has elevated the club to the heights that it currently stands. The role of A Grade captain has been occupied for a significant period of time. The committee regularly reviews its operations which includes seeking feedback from key club members. Through this process the committee identified a few years ago the need for a succession plan for this role to implement new ideas and expose others to on-field leadership. There is a significant opportunity for new leaders to be supported and nurtured as leaders with access to Travis’ experience as a mentor and be a sounding board for development. The club has truly valued Travis as a leader and what he brings to this club and we expect that he will still play a valuable role in a leadership group capacity striving to build on the strong foundation that he and the club has laid in recent years.
Whilst this decision may come as a shock to many members and we acknowledge that change can be a daunting experience, the Executive Committee is confident that this decision is in the best interest of the club and will be embraced by the senior playing group. This decision in no way undermines the immense value Travis has a leader, mentor, friend and club person on and off the field for the club.
The committee has worked closely with Mitchell since his appointment as Coach in 2023/24 in the effort to set him up for success. The Executive empower the coach to drive the standards and vision of what they aim to achieve. This empowerment extends to providing recommendations to the Cricket Director on the leadership group with formal endorsement by the Executive Committee. It was unanimous that Mitchell should be given the opportunity on a match day to implement the standards and directions that he is driving on the training track.
Please join us in congratulating Mitchell on his appointment and congratulate Travis on his successful 14 years in the role of captain. We look forward to the season ahead in 24/25 with sides in A1,A3,B2. LO6, Women's Div 1 and our inclusive side all striving for on field success. We can't wait to see all the senior men at pre-season commencing in the coming weeks.
